Paperboy

As many of you know, Bradley was in the Post Tribune on August 1st. Here is a copy of the actual article (Page B1, baby!). Higher quality pictures are at the newspaper website.

Swimming

Bradley had his first swimming class on Saturday. He enjoyed it, but he was pretty clingy by the end of the half-hour. Some of the games were a little too advanced. Somehow, we wound up in the 2-year old class. Next week, we will try the 1-year old class. Here is short video of dad and Bradley warming up before class.

On Friday, we went back to the pool, this time with the camera. It was at least 10 degrees cooler than on Monday and therefore there was about 50% less people there. (After getting a few more data points, Christine and I will work up a formula that correlates temperature and pool attendance.) Here's a short video of Brad having fun.

Mr. Clean Part 2

Bradley likes playing with brooms so much, that we bought him his own mini-broom. However, I like it better when he plays with full-size brooms. They are heavier and he can't swing them around. When he lifts his broom in the air, I tell him to put it down. So much so, that now when he swings it around, he says "dow".

Now that we have him fully trained on the broom, the laundry is next.

What's That Smell?

For once, the answer isn't Bradley. It's the animals. Bradley went to the Porter county fair on Friday and saw prize-winning rabbits, fowl, swine, and cattle.

Since the seniors can make it out to the fair, the fair comes to the seniors in the form of horse-drawn carriage rides. Earlier in the day, Brad went to the senior center to join in the fun. Click here for video (20mb).

More Water Fun

We hit the pool after work today. This was Bradley's first visit to a real pool. He really liked it (of course). Bradley liked the jets that shoot water up and to the side. He even ventured to the big mushroom, which he is still a little unsure of. Brad tried the slide a couple times, but he didn't like it as much as I thought he would. He got angry when we took him out of the water, but a wagon wheel calmed him down.

Sorry, but I forgot the camera. I am sure we will be back to the pool again this year. His first swim lesson is Saturday.

Breaking News

Breaking the gums, that is. We noticed that Bradley has two more teeth coming in!

If You Build It, He Will Come...

I think most people are familiar with this famous quote from Field of Dreams. In Bradley's world, a more appropriate quote is "If you build it, he will come...and knock it down." Brad has quite an appetite for destruction. This was is full effect yesterday when we went to visit Jimmy. The play kitchen was knocked over and two of three train sets were damaged more than once. Surprisingly enough, one of the train sets went untouched.

At home, he will knock down Lego towers and stacks of cups and he tears apart his little racetrack.

The Great Communicator

Bradley finally started using sign language this week. Finally! We have been trying to teach him for nearly a year. Yesterday, he gave us the sign for milk. A couple of days ago he gave us the sign for "all done", sort of.

He has been able to read signs for a few weeks. Without saying a word, I can point to the ceiling and Bradley will start heading for the stairs.

Now, if only I can get Bradley to exclusively use sign language. He did some communicating the old fashion way this morning at 4:40. He cried for about 5 seconds and then quieted down. Good for him, but I couldn't fall back asleep.

Happy Blogoversary!

It has been one year since I started the blog. I doubt they make greeting cards for such an occasion, so I won't be disappointed if I don't get any cards. (They make cards for every other occasion, why not this one?) Anywho, I have had a lot of fun doing this over the last year and I hope you have enjoyed reading the blog as much as I have had in writing it.

For a blast from the past check out this link, which shows the posts from one year ago. Several of the entries were back dated so they appear more than a year old.

The Graduate

Starting this week, Bradley has been promoted to the toddler room. He spent almost all of last week as a guest visitor in the room. As far as I can tell, there is no organized graduation ceremony.
