Sun, Sand, and Water

We all went to the Kemil Beach today. This was Bradley's first time to a beach. While we were there, a whole party showed up for a wedding. So, this was Bradley's second time to a wedding. We only stayed about an hour since the sun was pretty strong. We never did get into the water since it was less than 60 degrees. Bradley did get manage to take a dip later. Water Table

If you are like me, when you hear the term "water table", you think of the upper limit of abundant groundwater. (In the vadose zone, above the water table, the interstices between particles of earth are filled by air, or by air and water (with the exception of the capillary fringe). Below it, every available space is saturated with water. The definition of the water table is surface where the pressure head is equal to atmospheric pressure (where gauge pressure = 0).) However, now that I am a parent I have learned otherwise. A Water Table is a really fun toy. Click on the picture below to see Bradley demostrate both the correct and incorrect way to use the table.

Vroom Vroom

Bradley was all psyched for the Nextel All-Star Challenge. He was doing laps in the sun room, but he wore himself out and missed the start of the 1st race. This was the first time he used this toy properly. Maybe he was just trying to work off all the french fries he ate for dinner.

Of course, we have video - Windows (800k), iPod (1.6M).

Fun Day

Bradley and daddy went biking at the Arboretum today. This was his first substantial ride (6 miles) in the trailer.

Afterwards, we went to Culvers. Bradley ate french fries for the first time.

Feed Me

We took Bradley out for dinner on Wednesday. For the first time he ate table food. He fed himself some chicken, potatoes, and he really liked the carrots.

Bash

In honor of Bradley's first birthday, we had a party. All the local family was there. My parents came to the party and so did my in-law's in-law's. Thanks to everyone who brought cards and gifts.

Presents are fun even before you open them.

Of course there was cake and it was much tastier than the card.

Baby's First Second

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as....... Sinko de Mayo.

Happy Birthday

We sang to Bradley as soon as he woke up this morning, instead of waking him up at 12:26. He seemed to enjoy it very much (Video - Windows; iPod).

We had dinner at Heaven on Seven and then strolled along the riverwalk in Naperville.

Thanks to everyone who called to wish Bradley happy birthday.

Contest Winner

And the winner is.... Grandpa B. His guess of 1250 was closest to the actual total of 1431. I was really impressed that anyone came close to the right number. Grandpa H was second closest, but I don't think he factored in the 278 pictures I took for Bradley's Christmas card.

Photo Contest

In honor of Bradley's upcoming birthday, we are having a photo contest. It's not an ordinary photo contest. In this one you have to guess how many pictures I have taken of Bradley in his first year. More specifically, you need to guess how many pictures we have of him on the computer hard drive. The cut-off for entries is Wednesday at midnight. Use the comment feature to post your guess.
